Sourcing a new Vice President of Strategy for a S&P 500 building materials organisation

Beaumont Bailey’s Industrial practice worked alongside an industry leading, multibillion USD building materials organisation to expand its strategic development team by finding a new Vice-President of Strategy. The organisation is an S&P 500 materials business, with hugely ambitious targets and exceptional financial performances over recent years.

SEARCH BACKGROUND

Beaumont Bailey’s client had recently defined two key business objectives in order to deliver growth and improve capacity to generate greater revenue, in addition to acquiring a number of smaller building materials businesses in order to grow its national portfolio. The client required a highly-skilled and experienced Vice President who could drive the delivery of these objectives.

REQUIREMENTS

The organisation presented Beaumont Bailey with three key criteria for the role:

  1. The individual must be an exceptional strategic leader, capable of overseeing and assessing large scale multi-function projects for the continued growth and expansion of the business
  2. They must be an established figure from within the materials industry, who is not only well connected within the industry, but has experience in driving full end to end M&A processes who can act quickly to secure new high potential SMEs and integrate them into the business
  3. This individual must be on an exceptional career pathway, with the current trajectory suggesting a future ExCom or division president position being not only their ambition, but also well within reach

OUTCOME

After conducting an extensive market mapping exercise, approaching key competition from across the industry, Beaumont Bailey had multiple in-depth discussions with senior leaders from other multi-billion USD companies who showed early promise for the role. We then met with strategic leaders, built a network of high potential candidates and engaged them by explaining the ambitious development plan the client had laid out. We put together a shortlist of industrial leadership who excelled in all 3 criteria, from which one candidate was hired as the new Vice President.
