My Summer Internship 2024: Muktahal Singh Birring

My time at Beaumont Bailey has been both enriching and transformative. As an intern, I had the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the executive search business and gain a comprehensive understanding of Beaumont Bailey’s operations, from acquiring clients to delivering top-tier services. From day one, the team welcomed me with open arms and I quickly felt like part of the company. Given responsibilities early on, I was committed to delivering my best work while learning from the consultants and associates, who were always willing to offer support. This reflection highlights my journey, the skills I developed, and the unforgettable moments I shared with the Beaumont Bailey team.

Understanding Executive Search

At Beaumont Bailey, I learned the intricacies of the executive search process, which begins long before client contact. The journey starts with business development (BD), laying the groundwork for successful client engagements. Observing the weekly meetings between the marketing team and consultants was particularly insightful. These sessions highlighted the collaborative spirit at Beaumont Bailey, where every team member plays a crucial role in ensuring a steady flow of content and engagement across various platforms and channels.

The executive search process is both meticulous and thorough. It starts with discovery meetings to understand client needs and define the ideal candidate profile. Next, consultants and associates conduct market mapping, utilising various networking resources to create a long list of potential candidates. This list is then refined through assessments and client consultations to form a shortlist. Finally, a compelling offer is extended to the chosen candidate, with Beaumont Bailey remaining involved throughout the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition.

My Own Contributions

During my internship, I worked on several impactful projects. Highlights include a report on the geographical positioning of all previous Beaumont Bailey projects, one on German Investment Funds, and a HR Leaders in Chemicals report. I also contributed to various client presentations, collaborating closely with consultants and associates. Engaging with different consultants and associates during their respective “focus-weeks” allowed me to gain industry specific knowledge, across all the sectors that Beaumont Bailey serves.

These projects honed my report writing and analytical skills, particularly in gathering and interpreting industry-specific metrics. I also developed my communication skills, learning to present information clearly and concisely. Having the privilege of planning the July company social event also enhanced my project management and planning abilities.

Collaborating with team members underscored the value of teamwork and effective communication. I became proficient in using various resources for talent sourcing and data processing. Additionally, participating in the CIEE conference panel not only allowed me to share my experiences but also helped expand my network.

My Takeaways and Future Applications

The skills and experiences I’ve gained here will stay with me for a long time. Working in a new culture and country, particularly in London, has broadened my cultural understanding and enriched my professional growth. Consulting, especially in the context of solving people-related problems, has always fascinated me. The company’s approach, which combines deep industry knowledge with a personal touch, has reinforced my interest in this field.

Beaumont Bailey’s commitment to delivering bespoke solutions that benefit both clients and candidates in the long term is commendable. This experience has taught me the importance of going above and beyond when it comes to clients and networks, as evidenced by the geographic positioning project, which revealed a significant amount of repeat business from leading industry players.

Although my time at Beaumont Bailey was brief, it was filled with memorable moments. From the monthly social, to the lunches in the office, I have had meaningful conversations and cherished moments with the people of this company. I will remember the people, the work, and the city for years to come. I am undecided as to the career I will pursue after I graduate, yet the skills I’ve learned here will serve me well moving forward in my future academic and career endeavours.
