Successfully placing an experienced Regional Sales Manager (EMEA) for Birla Carbon

SEARCH BACKGROUND
Birla Carbon mandated Beaumont Bailey’s Head of Chemicals, Matt Harman, to support in the search for a new Regional Sales Manager (EMEA). The client required someone to oversee commercial responsibility for its European tyre business.
The candidate brief required someone who had extensive experience selling speciality chemical additives in the automotive industry, ideally with specific knowledge of the tyre market. The successful candidate would have over 10 years of cross-border experience, preferably within a large region or cross-continent. In addition to this, they would require commercial experience in both manufacturing and distribution and would be adept at working with SME’s and large multi-nationals. Birla Carbon required Beaumont Bailey to work at speed, as the role was crucial in maintaining the commercial output of the client’s largest business unit and they did not want to miss out on key market opportunities.
CHALLENGES
The talent pool in the carbon black and chemical additives market is relatively small, making the demand for exceptional individuals extremely competitive. Combined with the search parameters outlined by the client, it was a narrow field to search within. Additionally, Birla Carbon have an ambitious growth strategy and expect senior hires to make a rapid impact and it was crucial to communicate this expectation to candidates from the outset of the search.
OUTCOMES
Beaumont Bailey successfully placed a candidate with over 20 years of commercial experience. The candidate transitioned from a role where he sold specialty chemical additives to manufacturers, with significant experience across multiple regions. They were also well-versed in selling to manufacturers and distributors, as well as local and international chemical companies.
